James Roy Pope's Obituary
James Roy Pope died in Tulsa on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 82 years of age. James was born in Okmulgee on July 27, 1931 to Roy Lee and Florida (Brown) Pope. On May 16, 1953 he married Wanda Sue Lippard. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Okmulgee and the American Legion. James enjoyed hunting and fishing but the love of his life were all of his “kids.”
James was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He is survived by his wife Wanda of the home, daughter Susan Pope of Glenpool, granddaughter Kimberly Bourassa and husband Daniel of Tulsa, five great grandchildren: Tori Elkins, Zachary Nagel, Steven Jones, Jr., Andrew Jones and Jacob Jones, one brother Leon Pope and wife Gladys of Okmulgee, two sisters: Fern Furer and husband Ernie of Okmulgee and Shirley Moomau and husband Jim of Cary, North Carolina, nieces: Charlotte Knowles, Terri Cook, Vicky Pope, Sheryl Hurst, Patty Salyer, Fern Gill, Mary and Kathy, nephews: Steve Rawlings, Mike Rawlings, Ernie Furer, Mark Rogers and Kevin Rogers.
A funeral service celebrating James’s life will be held on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Okmulgee with Dr. Dennis Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at the Okmulgee Cemetery. Friends may see James at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee on Sunday from 12:00 – 6:00 P.M.
