Willie LaVaughn Suttles' Obituary
LaVaughn Suttles – June 27, 1922 – April 30, 2012
She was born in Eram, Oklahoma to TV and Willie Griffith. In 1929 they moved to Okmulgee. She met Paul and in 1939 became Mrs. Paul Suttles, a devoted wife and mother. In 1959 they became owners of Fallon Greenhouse where Paul had worked since 1933. Later she worked eleven years as a postal clerk at OSU Tech. Bowling and singing with the Silvertones were enjoyable times for her but not as much as times she and PaPaw had with grandchildren.
She is survived by two children: Shirley Merckling and husband Don of St. Louis and Paul Suttles Jr. and wife Jan of Oklahoma, four grandchildren who knew her as NaNa: Eric Merckling and wife Cheryl, Carol Wilkens and husband Errol, Brent Suttles, and Lance Suttles and wife Amy, six great grandchildren: Steven and Carley Merckling, Carlyn, Quinn, Carson, and Chase, plus many nieces, nephews and spouses who knew her as Aunt Bonnie.
She loved the Griffith Thanksgiving reunions. Those of us still here are a little envious of the reunion she now is having in heaven with Paul Sr., Grannie, her five sisters, two brothers and all their spouses. She also is survived by friends from Second Baptist Church where she has been a member since 1946. The family invites you to meet with them at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee on Wednesday, May2, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. and for the services at the Second Baptist Church on Thursday at 2:00 P.M. Members of the family will serve as casket bearers.
