William Buck's Obituary
CPO William “Spokie” Buck, resident of Weleetka, died in Shawnee April 14, 2014 at 82 years of age. Bill was born January 10, 1932 in Wetumka, Oklahoma to Roley Buck and Christine Robison. He attended Euchee Mission Indian School in Sapulpa before transferring to and graduating from Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas. In June of 1950 he joined the United States Navy. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and transferred to the Reserves, thus retiring from active duty in 1969. He was employed by the Creek Nation Casinos for fourteen years. He began as a floor clerk at Tulsa and ended up as Chairman of the Creek Nation Gaming Board. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. On August 22, 2007, in Miami, Oklahoma he married LeAnn High.
Bill is survived by his wife LeAnn of the home, daughter Debbie Bruton and husband Frank, son Stephen Buck and wife Imelda, five grandchildren: Thomas, Steven, Daniel, Vanessa and James, two great grandchildren: Kaydence Dawn Bruton and Teagan Alan Bruton, two sisters: Esther Gee and Evelyn “Frances” Bucktrot, two brothers: Daniel “Bozo” Buck and Tony “Sarge” Buck and wife Ella and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Okmulgee. Intombment will be at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. The family request memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Arrangements are under the direction of McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
