Voyd Paul Self's Obituary
Voyd Paul Self, of Okmulgee, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2009. He was reared in Northwest Arkansas and graduated from Summers High School. He worked in Alaska until he joined the Navy in 1943. After serving during World War II, mostly in the Pacific Islands, he returned to Arkansas and married his wife of 62 years, Willene McKee. He then moved to Okmulgee and graduated from Oklahoma State Tech’s Diesel Program. After working for OSU in Stillwater, he returned to Tech and became an instructor and then became the Diesel Department Head. He retired in 1981 after 38 years in the Diesel Mechanics field. After retirement, he farmed in Okmulgee until his death. During his life he had several projects, including co-owner of Belle Starr Marina on Eufaula Lake for several years. His interests included farming, family vacations, and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ora Self, and a brother Kenneth.
He is survived by his wife Willene of the home, three children; Marquetta Feltner and husband John of Kingdom City, Missouri, Adrian Self and wife Tresa of Stillwater, and Kelvin Self and wife Joanna of Stillwater, seven grandchildren; Eric Feltner, Aaron Feltner and wife Jennifer, and Jeremy Feltner, all of Columbia, Missouri, Kristy Self of Stillwater, Dustin Self and wife Jennifer of Little Elm, Texas, Melissa and Ryan Self of Stillwater, one great granddaughter Kylie Feltner of Columbia, Missouri, and two brothers; Elbert Self and wife Peggy of Prairie Grove, Arkansas and Vester Self of Drummond, Tennessee.
Services will be at the Illinois Chapel Cemetery in Prairie Grove, Arkansas on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 1:00 P.M.
