Tom Gayland Duncan's Obituary
Tom Gayland Duncan was born February 24, 1927 in Mulberry, Arkansas to the late Richard Carroll and Neva (Wisdom) Duncan. He passed away at his home on Friday, April 24, 2026 at ninety-nine years of age.
Tom spent his early years in Mulberry, Arkansas. The family then moved to Haskell, Oklahoma where he attended school until his junior year. The family then moved to California and he graduated from Canoga Park High in 1944. Following graduation he proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. Tom and the love of his life, Evelyn Colleen Moore, were married August 30, 1945 and were married sixty four years before her passing November 18, 2009.
Tom was primarily a farmer and rancher and in 1955 he and Colleen moved to the Liberty community, to establish their lifelong home. He worked in many occupations over the years but was most proud of his work at the Okmulgee County Soil Conservation District and as Okmulgee County Commissioner for District #2 for two terms. Community was important to him and he spent many hours as school board member, serving several positions at the church on committees, getting rural water and phone services expanded.
Tom loved traveling. He and Colleen enjoyed visiting the country in their R.V. Tom visited Cuba, a trip he looked forward to taking for many years. Last year he was able to visit Ireland with his daughter.
He was a member of the American Legion of Haskell, Oklahoma, member of the Liberty Baptist Church and the Okmulgee Cattleman's Association. He was a 32 Degree Mason and a member of the Okmulgee Masonic Lodge #199.
Tom will be remembered for his natural curiosity about many things and for his red cars, but most of all, for the love of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Colleen, daughter Carol Ann Atwell, his twin brother, John Gaylus Duncan, his siblings, Ray Duncan, Robert Duncan, James Duncan, Ruth Rogers, Gwendolyn Harbo, Sue Hager and a son-in-law, James Morgan,
Survivors include his daughter, Linda Jean Morgan, son, John Duncan and wife, Vickie, sister, Emma Rombach, son-in-law, Larry Atwell, grandchildren, Sharon Morgan Robinson, Jennifer Morgan Arnold, Tina Morgan Martin, Debra Morgan Adams, Tommy Atwell, Jeff Atwell, Carrie Atwell Kemp, Angie Atwell Gilfillan, Ron Duncan, Craig Duncan and Kenny Duncan, twenty three great grandchildren and thirteen great great grandchildren.
Friends may visit the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Morris from 12:00 P.M. -7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. The family will be present beginning at 5:00 P.M. to receive friends.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at the Liberty Baptist Church with Reverend Jeff Ward officiating. Interment will follow in the Haskell Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Tommy Atwell, Riley Atwell, Cale Duncan, Craig Duncan, Kenny Duncan and Steven Arnold.
