Robert Wade Haworth's Obituary
Robert Wade Haworth, 60, of Morris, OK passed away Tuesday, October 29th after a battle with COPD and lung cancer. In the same way he lived, he passed peacefully surrounded by his family.
Wade was born in Tulsa, OK on June 13th, 1964 to Wendall and Freda Haworth. He joined his older brother Leon and became the middle child six years later when his sister Kara was born. When Wade was in the third grade, Wendall bought a small auto parts business in Morris called The Parts Barn and moved his family to the tiny town.
Wade grew up in Morris Schools playing sports and developing a deep "Eagle Pride" with his coaches and friends. In high school, Wade took two things very seriously — playing football and scaring off any boys trying to date his baby sister. He was great at both things and at one point even held the record for Most Tackles in Morris Football history.
After graduating in 1982, Wade attended East Central University and walked on to play Tiger Football. In his second year of college, tragedy drew him home when the 1984 Morris Tornado tore up his hometown and nearly killed his mother. To help his family and hometown, he dropped out of school and moved back to help care for Freda Rae and rebuild The Parts Barn.
Wade met the love of his life Becky when friends set them up on a blind date in 1985. Wild, adventurous dates gave way to a quiet certainty they wanted to spend their lives together. They married in 1986 at a wedding ceremony that just happened to fall on that year's OU-OSU Bedlam Game. You better believe Wade attended the game and made it to the church just a little late for pictures.
The couple lived in Oklahoma City for a few years until moving back to Morris to raise their three children closer to family. In fact, their kids remember fondly being within walking distance of their grandparents and aunt and uncle.
Wade was nothing if not a hard worker. He would leave for work at 3am and never missed kissing the kids goodbye as they slept. After long shifts and commuting home with dirty hands and jeans, he'd often pick up a basketball and wow his kids by making a corner shot in the driveway basketball goal on his way into the house. As committed as he was to hard work, he showed the same dedication to his kids' activities by always attending sporting events and band contests.
In 2006, Wade became a grandfather and found a new role to play in life as Pops. He loved being a grandfather more than anything. From fishing and Kubota rides; to haunted trails and reading story books over and over, Wade made time for his eight grandkids.
Wade and Becky decided a great way to create memories with their kids and grandkids would be to gift an annual vacation each summer. As the family grew from 5 to 10 to 16, they criss-crossed the country together sitting on beaches and summiting mountains. Wade even made three trips to Grand Canyon specifically to share it with his wife and kids as well as his sister Kara and brother Leon.
Wade Haworth led a full life packed into his sixty years. But in that time he said some tough goodbyes to people he loved as he was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell Leon Sr. and Freda Rae Haworth, and his brother, Wendell Leon Jr. But he leaves a legacy of generosity and love for family as he is survived by his beautiful wife of 38 years, Becky Haworth; his children: Chris and Heidi Fox of Moore, OK; Cassady and Ethan Crocker of De Queen, AR; Katie and Trevor Thorman of Tulsa, OK; his treasured grandchildren: Ephraim, Adelaide, and Anderson Fox; Hattie and Hayes Crocker; and Finnick, Everett, Solomon Thorman; his step-mother Carolyn Haworth of Morris, OK; his younger sister Kara Kuhlman and husband Tim of Beggs, OK; his nephew Jesse and wife Sage of Okemah, OK; his niece Taylor and husband Tanner of Mounds, OK; his step-brothers Grant of Oklahoma City, OK and Bryan and wife Lisa of Denham Springs, LA; his step-sister Tracey and husband Jimmy of Denham Springs, LA; and many other loving family in Yale, OK and Denham Springs, LA.
Visitation with the family will be held at McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Morris on Sunday, November 3rd from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. A memorial service is planned at Trinity Baptist Church in Morris for Monday, November 4th at 10:00 am. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, a cause that Wade supported for many years.
