Philip Morris Benson's Obituary
Philip Morris "Phil" Benson was born in Ada, Oklahoma on October 4, 1936 to Edward J. and Stella (Jones) Benson. He passed away on Friday evening, August 12, 2016 in Henryetta. Phil graduated from Nuyaka High School. He married Shirley Taylor in 1956.
Phil served as a fireman with the Tulsa Fire Department for 23 years. He later received his master's degree from Northeastern State University and taught high school English and history in Okmulgee and New Mexico. Phil loved horses and saddle making, and enjoyed riding his Harley. He took pride in watching his grandkids play sports and in taking wonderful care of his animals. He was a longtime member of Church of Christ, Morris.
Phil is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Stella Benson, son, Clint Benson, and sister, Paula Martin.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley Benson, daughter, Beverly Kiehl and husband Tracy, son, Kevin Benson, grandchildren, Kristin Sheneman and husband Garrett, Guy Kiehl, Colton Kiehl, and Brook Kiehl, niece Margra Scheibe and husband Robert, great-niece Cassandra Scheibe, great-nephews, John C. Scheibe and David H. Scheibe, and brother-in-law, Jake Taylor and wife Kim.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Okmulgee Cemetery with Pastor Wesley Berry officiating. Friends may visit the funeral home on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
