Mildred McElhannon's Obituary
The Lord called Mildred McElhannon home on the afternoon of October 5, 2018 from Glenpool, Oklahoma. She had been a resident at the Glennwood nursing home for the past five years but was a resident in Okmulgee since 1948. Mildred was 91 years old. She was born to the late Walter and Ida Mae (Collins) Mahan on Tuesday, November 16, 1926 in Tulsa County.
Mildred met Ed McElhannon and they got married on November 23, 1942 in Okmulgee before World War II began. She was very close with her family and she loved them dearly, they were her life along with God. She was an avid quilter and was known for her beautiful handmade quilts. Mildred taught her children how to quilt. She devoted her life to three different organizations. Mildred had been a member of the Oklahoma order of the Eastern Star for 65 years. She received the Gold Star Mother award in 1966 with the death of her son James in Vietnam. and she was a very active member in the VFW Axillary. Mildred became a member of the Second Baptist church on November 6, 1968.
Preceding Mildred in death is her parents, husband Edgar Lee McElhannon, sons James and Stephen McElhannon, great grandson Matt Clingan, one sister and six brothers. Those left to cherish all of wonderful memories of Mildred is her daughter Patricia Clingan of Bixby dearest family friend Sandy Eaton of Bixby, grandsons Wade Clingan and wife Paula of Glenpool, Phillip Clingan and wife Linda of San Antonio, Texas, ten great-grandchildren, and sixteen great great grandchildren, sister-in-law Ruby Smith if Dewar, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held 11:00am. Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at the Second Baptist Church with Chaplain Steve Holestine to officiate. Interment will follow at the Okmulgee Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home on Monday, October 8, 2018 from 1:00pm until 8:00pm. The family will be present for visitation from 5:00pm-7:00pm.
