Michael Demcheshen's Obituary
Michael Kit Demcheshen, Okmulgee resident, was born June 20, 1927 in Suhodol, Poland to Fedor and Julia (Kit) Demcheshen. He passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2010 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Michael proudly served in the United States Army and married Gladys Violet Baxter on June 20, 1953 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. They moved to Okmulgee in 1977 from Edmond. He retired from Phillips Petroleum after 28 years of service. Michael enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and listening to music, but most of all, he loved being with his grandchildren. He was a faithful member of the Grand Avenue Church of Christ.
Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers, Nicholas, Simon, and Vladimir Demcheshen and sisters, Martha Dabrowski and Olga Suvalo. Survivors include his loving wife, Violet, a daughter, Julia Blackburn and husband Gary, a son, Keith Demcheshen and wife Julie, grandchildren, Lindsey Burnet and husband Eddie, Jeffrey Blackburn, Nicholas Demcheshen and Katarina Demcheshen and his sisters, Katerina Barna, Hanna Shvetch and Maria Demcheshen.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 8, 2010 at the Grand Avenue Church of Christ with Armando Gonzalez officiating. Committal services will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Ronald Campbell, Bob Howard, Elijah Gonzalez, Jeffrey Blackburn, Eddie Burnet and Kevin Copeland. Nicholas Demcheshen will serve as honorary casketbearer. The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
