Michael Joe Burgess' Obituary
Michael Joe Burgess passed away on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024at Clarehouse after a short illness. He was seventy-four years of age. Michael was born December 1, 1949, in Wewoka, Oklahoma to the late William F. and Madeline, (Bemo) Burgess. He graduated from Wewoka High School. He married Karen Sue Shelton on June 7, 1969, in Wewoka. Michael was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard and worked as a concrete finisher throughout his life. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and especially loved being with his grand kids and cooking on the grill. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Karen in 2020 and siblings, Jimmy Burgess and Loretta Finkenburg. Survivors include his daughter, Jill Phelps and husband Doug, a son, John Burgess, grandchildren, Natalie, Kaci, Joshua, Preston and C.J., great grandchildren, Emma, William and Noah, siblings, Melvin Burgess, Anna Kitsmiller and husband Walter and Marlene Burgess and a sister-in-law, Ruth Vaden.
Friends may visit the funeral home on Monday, September 16, 2024, from 12:00 PM - 6:00 P.M.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the Nuyaka Baptist Church with Reverend Dan Factor officiating. Interment will follow in the Tuskegee Cemetery.
