Mary Ann Kane's Obituary
Mary Ann Kane, lifelong resident of Okmulgee passed away on Friday, May 5, 2017 at the age of 89. She was born to the late Samuel Jefferson Checote and Mary Ellen (Griffey) Checote on Thursday, May 3, 1928 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Mary lived an adventurous and active life. She retired from Creek Nation after working as a transporter for many years. Her passions included sewing, canning, cooking, gardening, genealogy, and spending time with her family and friends. Mary served on the Okmulgee County fair board and was an active and dedicated member of the Newtown United Methodist Church, the American Business Women Association, and Oklahoma Extension Homemakers.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, spouse Gordon (Happ) Kane, and brother Don Checote. Left to cherish all the great memories of Mary are her sons Larry Kane and wife Pam of Okmulgee, Donnie William Kane of Tulsa, grandchildren Robert Kane of Heckorville, Patrick Rivera of Kiefer, great grandchildren Eric Gene Kane, Hailey Rivera, KayDean Mason, Dawson Finley, and Kennedie Finley.
Funeral service will be held for Mary on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at the Newtown United Methodist Church in Okmulgee with Reverend David Long officiating. Interment will follow at the Okmulgee Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home Thursday from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Arrangements have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
