Mary Lou Jamison's Obituary
Mary Lou Jamison, known to her grandkids and great grandkids as “Mimi”, from Beggs, Oklahoma was 92 years old when she passed away December 21, 2021 at her home in Beggs, Oklahoma. Known for her quick wit, and positive outlook and Godly wisdom, Mimi was endeared by her family and many friends.
Born on December 12, 1929, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to Melville Guy “Slue” and Mamie Lou (Newton) Thompson. Mary Lou went to elementary school at Oak Grove, a community school east of Beggs, and graduated from Beggs High School.
On November 21, 1948, Mary Lou married her high school sweetheart Jack Jamison in Wewoka, Oklahoma. After their wedding the new couple made their home in Shawnee, Tulsa and then moved to San Diego, California where Jack was enlisted in the Navy and Mary Lou worked in a bank.
In 1951, the couple moved back to Beggs and started their family and were blessed with a son Rusty Jamison and daughters Melody Varner and Merrily Shelby. The new family settled in and began working on the family ranch, the Thompson Ranch, and Mary Lou worked at a bank and the US Census Bureau. She then became the office manager for Thompson Brothers and later became co-owner of the Jamison Ranch.
Mary Lou was deep in her faith, she enjoyed reading her Bible, drinking a Pepsi and being with her family. She loved living on the ranch and going with Rusty to feed the cattle. Every day, Mary Lou looked forward to reading the daily newspaper and she could often be found sitting in the kitchen talking on the phone to her many friends. She delighted in visits from her many grandchildren and great children.
Mary Lou was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Slick where she loved to attend and worship. She was, also, a lifetime member of the Beggs Chapter of Easter Star.
Mary Lou is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Jamison, sister Kitty Lasley, and Son-in-law Sam Varner. She is survived by her brother Don “Stump” Thompson and wife Bonnie Thompson of Santa Rosa, New Mexico, son Rusty Jamison and wife Carolyn Jamison of Beggs, Daughter Melody Varner of Bristow, daughter Merrily Shelby and husband Troy Shelby of Madill. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was loved and will be greatly missed by a host of nieces, uncles, nephews, plus many many friends.
The family would like to acknowledge Mary Lou’s special friends Marilyn and Orvil Wood for their kindness to our beloved Mimi. They would also like to thank Dianna Ralson for her kind, gentle, loving care of Mary Lou in the final days of her life.
A Celebration of Life will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, December 27th, at Faith Baptist Church in Slick, Oklahoma and interment will follow at Beggs Cemetery, Beggs Oklahoma. Casket bearers will be Levi Shelby, Will Shelby, Chace Jamison, Pokey Varner, Justin Huskey and Riley Huskey. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Faith Baptist Church, Slick Oklahoma.
