Martha Jane Harris' Obituary
Martha Jane (Corky) Harris, 67, died in Okmulgee on Monday, September 27, 2010. She was born in Okmulgee on April 18, 1943 to Lee O. and Retha B. (Williams) Burke. Martha graduated from Northeastern University and had a Masters Degree in Education. She taught in the Morris public Schools System for 37 years before retiring in May of 2005. Her love for family, friends, and the hundreds of children that she touched was the main goal in her life. We will all miss her humor and her raspy voice and contagious laugh. Martha’s parents, a son Burke Lee Harris, a brother Buster Burke and a half brother Marvin Burke preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son Dustin Harris and wife Glenda of Morris, one sister Dorene Mudd of Morris, two half sisters Glenda Johnson of Morris and Ethyl Whitsett of Bueno Park, California, a half brother Charles Burke of Okmulgee, two grandsons Tyler Harris and Trenton Harris both of Oologah, OK., a step-daughter Marlene Bartlett of The Colony, TX, two step grandsons Ryan and Andy Haynes of Morris, , step granddaughter Ashley Haynes of Oklahoma City, and step great grandchildren R.J. Colby and Caylee Haynes of Morris/.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, First Baptist Church in Morris at 10 am, with Rev. Ray Moffeit officiating. Burial will follow in the Morris Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday 12-8 pm at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee. The family requests contributions be made in Martha’s name to the Morris School System.
