Kenneth Popejoy's Obituary
Kenneth Popejoy, 84, a resident of Skiatook, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was born November 4, 1927 in Henryetta. Kenneth attended and graduated from Bryant School, playing basketball in high school. He later moved to Texas, then California and settled in Iowa where he lived for 30 years and worked as an iron worker. Kenneth returned to Oklahoma due to failing health. He was an active member of the Iron Worker’s Union. He enjoyed fishing, drinking coffee and visiting with friends, and most of all, the time he was able to spend with his grandson. Kenneth was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice (Phillips) West, step-father, Amos West, and a sister, Rosalee Stubbs. Survivors include his son, Ken Popejoy of Tulsa, daughter, Anita Popejoy Jansen of Skiatook, grandchildren, Russell Jansen and Wyatt Shine Fisher, a brother, Dawson Popejoy of Texas, three sisters, Christine Bennett of Okmulgee, Doris Miller of Texas and Delores Adkins of Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday May 10, 2012 at the Okmulgee Cemetery with Reverend Ray Moffeit officiating. Friends may visit the funeral home from 12-6 Wednesday and 9-12 Thursday. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
