Kenneth Dwaine Vaughan's Obituary
Kenneth Dwaine Vaughan was born on February 13, 1933 in Morris to Cecil Eldridge and Gladys Elizabeth (Hunter) Vaughan. He passed away on Saturday morning, January 9, 2016 in Tulsa.
Dwaine was raised on a dairy farm near Morris. He played basketball for Morris High School, graduating in 1950. He then earned an Associate Degree. Dwaine married Frances Ada Stout on February 14, 1952 in Morris. He joined the U.S. Army in 1954 and was honorably discharged March 29, 1956. Dwaine and Frances moved to California in 1958 and he owned and operated Ken’s Cabinet Shop for several years. In his early years Dwaine enjoyed fishing and hunting. In 1971 they returned to Morris and Dwaine worked as a carpenter and homebuilder and owned and operated Vaughan Construction, Cattleman’s Restaurant and Little Cattleman Restaurant. Dwaine had a love for flying. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Morris and was retired from the Morris Fire Department and had served on the Morris Auxiliary Police Force.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances Ada Vaughan, and a half brother David Vaughan.
He is survived by his son, Larry Vaughan and wife Janice of Tulsa, daughter Lori Cole and husband Shawn of Bixby, brother, Dathan Vaughan of Muskogee, sister, LaVeda Brill and husband Don of Morris, and half sister, Sandy Edgemond of Ft. Smith, along with five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Dwaine will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Morris United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Freddie Waldrep, Rev. Nathan Cole, and Rev. Marion Daniels officiating. Reverend Elroy Martin will serve as a honorary officiant. Serving as casketbearers will be Jimmie Vaughan, Kent Brill, Kevin Brill, Mike Chastain, Mark Chastain, and Bill Wasson. Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie Smelser, Randal Vaughan, Olen Hurt and Jimmy Hurt. Interment will follow at Morris Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The family will receive guests from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
