Joseph Verlyn Pope's Obituary
Joseph Verlyn Pope (Jokey), lifetime Okmulgee resident, joined his family and friends in heaven on August 10, 2015 at 7:20 AM. He was born May 14, 1948 in Okmulgee to Betty Lou Dunn and Edward (Teeny) Merlyn Pope. He married Marsha Lou McBee on July 5, 1975. Joseph was a jack of many trades, he was a skilled carpenter, mechanic and oil field worker. Joseph loved to work on cars and show others and his grandkids how to fix things. Joseph attended Jubilee Christian Center.
Survivors include his wife and long time companion, Marsha Lou McBee, daughters Jody Quiroz and Vivian Pope, both of Okmulgee. His Grandchildren, Joey Gilbert, Larry Holmes, Trey Holmes and Kane Sanchez, all of Okmulgee and a great granddaughter Savanah Louise Gilbert. He was survived by his siblings Benji Pope, Christine Taylor, and Sherry Whitlow. Joseph had a multitude of nieces and nephews. The love for and from his family was unconditional and never ending.
Joseph was preceded in death by his mother, father and siblings which include Billy Ray Dunn, Jim Murphy, Sandra Murphy, Debbie McFarland and Sheila Nelson. A mother in-law, Martha McBee and a step-father Everett Lee Cantrell, all residents of Okmulgee.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Friends may visit the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-6 PM, and Wake Services are scheduled for 6-8 PM. Pallbearers are to include David Nichols Sr, Henry Coker, Jonathon Frenchman, Robert Taylor Jr, Kane Sanchez, Joey Gilbert, Johnny Pope, Trey Holmes with honorary pall bearers being Robert Taylor Sr, Emanuel Morgan, Eugene Thomas Jr, Jeremiah Jones, Kenneth Morgan, Tommy Morgan, Robert Grummit, Ricky Joe (Bull) Morgan, and Ronald Chandler. Joseph will be laid to rest at the Okmulgee Cemetery.
