Joe Anthony Bono's Obituary
Joe Anthony Bono, lifelong Okmulgee County resident, died at his home on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 95 years of age. He was born Joseph Antonio Bono on September 27, 1916 in Schulter, Oklahoma to Jiacomo Stephano Bono and Maria Annunciata (Branchi) Bono. Joe married Mabel Marie Busse on June 17, 1940 at St. Michaels Catholic Church. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1945 and was honorable discharged in 1946. Joe worked as a fence builder most of his life and enjoyed cabinetry work and raising cattle. As a young man, he traveled to California and help start the Earnest and Julio Vineyards. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Preceding him in death were his father, Jiacomo Bono, mother, Maria Franshetto, a son, Pat Bono, brothers, Charles Bono, Antonio Bono, and Charley Bono and two infant sisters, Phyllis and Kathryn Bono. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Mabel Bono, of the home, daughters, Mary Claxton of Tulsa, Deborah Chase of Oologah, Regina Bono of Pond Creek, Joanie Schellerman of Sapulpa, Carol Phillips of Okmulgee, and Lucy Pollard of Ft. Gibson, three sons, Mike Bono of Sallisaw, Steve Bono of Sallisaw and Phillip Bono of Lawton, an adopted daughter, Tuesday Bono, fifteen grandchildren, eight great grandchidlren and many nieces and nephews. A Rosary Service will be held 7:30 P.M. Friday evening at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday, March 17, 2012 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Father Khiet Nguyen will be the Celebrant. Services will conclude at the church and a private interment will be held at the Okmulgee Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Keith Claxton, Kevan Claxton, John Scheuerman, Jason Thrower, Chris Bono, and John Green. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
