Joe Dan Acton's Obituary
Joe Dan Acton passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023 in Okmulgee at seventy- seven years of age. He was born January 27, 1946 in Dewar, Oklahoma to A.J. Winter and Ramell (Acton) Rhodes. He graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1964 and served in the U.S. Army reserve for six years. He taught and coached basketball at Mingo schools. He also taught at Leonard schools and then taught at Edison Middle School until he retired. Joe gave everyone a nick name that he used throughout their life.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Lance Acton, and two brothers, Cecil Rhodes and Steven Rhodes.
Survivors include, two sons, Brian Acton and wife Afton and Michael Acton, grandchildren, Austin Acton, Kaylee Acton and Cory Brown, siblings, Bruce Rhodes and wife Sheryl, Marilyn Rhodes, Virigina Howard, and Michael Rhodes, Arthur King and wife Tinah, a sister-in-law, Michelle Rhodes, extended family, Jack and Mary Francis, Milissia Smith, Joann and Robert Walker, Julie Johnson, David John and Robin Mattingly, Carolyn Speaks, and Rebecca and husband Roger Koenig, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel. A committal service will be held at 2:00 P.M. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa.
