Jimmy Edward Jones' Obituary
Jimmy Edward Jones passed away at the age of 78, August 1, 2022, in Derby, Kansas. He was born in Okmulgee, OK to Charles “Sonny” and Myrtle (McBroom) Jones on March 5, 1944.
Jimmy grew up in the Okmulgee area. He graduated high school from Okmulgee High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant OK, while continuing his love of football earning the title All American Line Backer for the “Southeast Savages”. He began his teaching and football coaching career at Central High School in Tulsa. Jimmy made several moves as he continued to teach and coach at John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City, Antlers High School, McAlester High School, and Vinita High School, and finally after 30+ years retiring from Bridge Creek High School in 1996 Jimmy impacted numerous lives over his lifetime. Jimmy was an avid OU fan and either attended or watched every game. He collected OU memorabilia.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Billy Charles Jones and a granddaughter Kathryn Havard.
He is survived by his children Bryan Jones and wife Jodi of Andover, KS, Billy Don Jones and wife Catherine of Sarasota, FL, Julie Havard and husband Ricky of Sarasota, FL, a sister Ann Bingman and husband James of Okmulgee, OK, grandchildren Charles Jones, Sean Jones, Alyssa Jones, Nicholas Runnels, Logan Havard, Amanda Jones, Alex McGill, Megan Zebosky, Jacob Jones, Jayden Jones, Jarrett Jones, great-grandchildren Ashley, Ella, and Nolan
Friends may visit the funeral home on Monday, August 8, 2022 from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
Funeral Service will be 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Okmulgee Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Dick Bingman, Ted Creason, Rick Creason, Jacob Jones, Jayden Jones, and Jarrett Jones.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donating to Rose Hill Gridiron Club or the Bridge Creek Football Booster Club, PO Box 1313, Tuttle, OK 73089.
