Jimmie Rae Miller's Obituary
Jimmie Rae “J.R.” Miller was a devout Christian and a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She ascended from her long-time Okmulgee farmhouse to her heavenly home at the age of 79 on Saturday, July 24, 2021. Jimmie was born to the late James William Penn and Myrtle Bessie (Noble) Penn on June 10, 1942. Shortly after graduating from Okmulgee High School in 1960, she married Glendell Lee Miller. The two spent over 55 years together before his passing in 2018. Jimmie spent countless summers camping, fishing, skiing, and swimming at “Miller Point,” the Miller family’s own piece of paradise at Okmulgee Lake. If her husband started a carpentry project, Jimmie would finish it with a stellar paint job; with her daughter and granddaughter, she would spend hours upon hours painting canvases and ceramics, as well as drawing and coloring with charcoals, pencils, pastels, markers... Jimmie took extensive care of her garden and flower beds, got lost in all her thousands of books, and poured great energy into studying the family genealogy. In the later part of her life, Jimmie would spend several nights a week preparing meals with her daughter and granddaughter, although more time was spent laughing than cooking. Jimmie was a hard worker and helped provide for her family, but when it came time for Glen to retire, she also retired to enjoy their life together. While she will be missed by her family and friends, whom she loved dearly, the time has come yet again for Jimmie to retire so she can enjoy her eternal life with her soulmate, Glendell Lee Miller.
Jimmie was preceded in death by her loving husband Glendell Lee Miller; mother Myrtle Bessie Penn; father James Penn; sisters Peggy Jo Decker, Sharon Kay Wallen, and Mary Ann Penn; and most recently, close aunt Norma Patterson.
She is survived by her daughter Michele Lea Berryman and son-in-law Dr. Brian Kent Berryman; only grandchild Natalie Nicole Berryman; brother-in-law Cleo Altus Miller and sister-in-law Beverly Ann Miller; nephew Randall Miller and niece-in-law Gina Miller; great-niece Erin Miller-Thiessen; nieces Angela Sullins-Berryhill and Allison Sullins-Hazlip; aunt Ivy Jean Miller; and several cousins on the Patterson, Penn, and Noble sides of the family. Jimmie is also survived by four beloved pets: Buffy and Zoe, the cats she passed down to her granddaughter Natalie; and Chanel and Fergus, her grand-dogs.
Viewing will be Thursday, July 29, 2021, from 1:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. with the family present from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM. A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 30, 2021 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery.
