Janice Marie Grimmett's Obituary
Janice Marie (Denney) Grimmett died on August 29, 2025 peacefully in her home at Legend at Tulsa Hills. She was a beloved mother, sister, daughter, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many during her lifetime. Janice was born at home in Haskell, Oklahoma on April 20, 1943 to Sherman and Elsie (Branch) Denney. She was the next to youngest in her family and had six siblings. She graduated from Haskell High School in 1960 and married Tom Grimmett in 1962 at 19 years old.
By the time Janice was 25 years old she had three children (Rod, Greg and Randy) and lived in Coweta, Oklahoma. Shortly after their marriage Tom began his teaching and coaching career at Dover High School in Dover, Oklahoma. After teaching at Dover, he continued his teaching and coaching career at Liberty Mounds, Coweta and Owasso Schools, with Janice by his side. After her youngest started kindergarten, Janice completed her teaching degree and eventually her Master’s Degree in Education from Northeastern State University. She taught for one year in the Collinsville School system, then began teaching high school English at Preston High School, eventually retiring from Preston Schools. For most of her life, Janice and Tom resided in the Bald Hill/Twin Hills community. During their time at Twin Hills, Tom and Janice raised Hereford cattle and other livestock, supported their sons in their sports, livestock showing and public speaking endeavors and remained faithful and ardent sports fans, attending games at Preston High School and Beggs High School, often in support of their grandchildren. Tom and Janice were active members of Crossroads Baptist Church in Beggs, Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Tom, her mother and father, her brothers Bob, Kenneth, Ralph and Don and her younger sister, Helen.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, Rod and Dana Grimmett of Beggs, Greg and Stacy Grimmett of Wellston and Randy and Allison Grimmett of Lenox, Massachusetts; her older sister and best friend, Kay Hall, of Broken Arrow, OK; her grandchildren Kyle Grimmett of Nuyaka, Ashleigh Callahan of Twin Hills, Zack Grimmett of Beggs, Nick Grimmett of Beggs, Bailey (Grimmett) Stremme of Beggs, Kelsey Starks of Wellston, Treyton and Blaiklyn Grimmett of Wellston and Adeline and Ellie Grimmett of Lenox, MA; grand-in-laws, Paton Callahan, Emily Grimmett, Paige Grimmett, Brett Stremme and Ricky Starks and great-grandchildren Kaleigh Thompson Callahan, Abby, Calvin and Samantha Callahan, Noah and Nate Grimmett, Lincoln and Livia Grimmett, Valerie and Kate Stremme and Brantley and Kaisyn Starks.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, September 2nd at 11am at the Haskell Cemetery, where she is interred next to her husband, Tom. Together they will be raised again to meet their savior, Jesus Christ, on that day of redemption to come.
