James Ray Mahaney's Obituary
James Ray Mahaney, 68, passed away Sunday morning, June 10, 2012 at his home in Okmulgee. He was born December 17, 1943 to the late Leslie Cecil and Gladys Fae (Johnston) Mahaney in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Ray married Billie June Snelson on October 24, 1964 in Okmulgee. He worked at OSU-IT as an Electronics Instructor for 30 years before retiring in 1994. Ray enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, fishing and shooting. He also had a great love for woodworking and could fix just about anything. Ray enjoyed the time he spent at his church, the Morris First Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, bus driver and technology operator. He was also a former member of the Preston School Board. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Billie, of the home, a daughter, Trish Shoemake and husband Dr. Stuart Shoemake, of Cushing, a son, Jimmy Mahaney and wife Wendy of Grand Rapids, Michigan, four grandsons, Ryan and Aaron Shoemake and Tyler and Trevor Mahaney, and a brother, Wayne Mahaney and wife Flo of Tahlequah. Ray is also survived by his loyal yellow lab, Abbey. A Funeral Service to honor Ray’s life will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 15, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Morris. Reverend Ray Moffeit will officiate assisted by Reverend David Kelley. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Robert Greenlee, Gary Frazier, Dick Ashley, Wes Pipkins, Tommy Daniels, Jimmy Casselman, and David Holt. The family will receive friends from 5-7 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home chapel. Friends are invited to bring anything Ray crafted for them to the funeral home or the church to display on a memory table. Memorial contributions may be made in Ray’s name to the First Baptist Church of Morris. Arrangements are under the direction of McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
