Helen Catherine Johnson's Obituary
Helen Catherine Johnson 82, a resident of Beggs, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Sunday, March 13, 2011. She was born in Beggs on February 26, 1929 to Amanda Coleman and Lemar Numa Jacob. At eight months old her mother died. Her father enlisted into the Army entrusting baby Helen in the loving care of his sister and brother in law, Morris Wesley and Lula May Payton (Jacob). Shortly after, Lula and Morris adopted Helen. She married Ernest Johnson on October 5, 1956.
Helen worked for the Department of Human Services until her retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church South. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, Tommie Johnson, and her three older sisters, Rosey Lee Williams (Barnett), Ida Mae Henderson (Barnett), and Izella Speed-Bey (Thomas).
Survivors include two sons, James W. Johnson of Okmulgee, Clayton D. Johnson of Beggs; four daughters, Kathleen Wilson of Okmulgee, LouWanda A. Johnson of Tulsa, Connie S. Thompson of Okmulgee, Rosie L. Holston of Tulsa, thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, more family and friends.
Graveside services will be on Friday, March 18, 2011 at the New Bethel Cemetery with Alvin Hunt officiating. Visitation will be Thursday 12-8 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Beggs. Honorary pallbearers will be Clayton Johnson, James Johnson, Theodore Jones, Mark Thompson, Jr., Travis Wilson, and Darryle Johnson. Condolences may be made at mcclendon-winters.com.
