Harold Eugene Lackey's Obituary
Harold Eugene Lackey (1939-2017) passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017 after a long, hard battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.
Harold was born on June 17, 1939 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Ruth Charnella and William Roy Lackey.
He was a four sport athlete at Morris High School, excelling in football, baseball, track and basketball.
He attended Conners State Junior College in Warner, Oklahoma where he played baseball and football. He was a Golder Gloves boxer. He was inducted into the Conners State College Sports Hall of Fame for football in 2014. Harold then played football and graduated from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah with a Master’s in Education.
He taught school for two years in Roswell, New Mexico with his college roommate Tom Peters. Harold then started a 33 year education and coaching career in the Rockwell School District in St. Louis, Missouri. He was also a successful builder in the St. Louis area during that time.
After retiring from teaching, he started a 10 year career with Schlumberger in Kellyville, Oklahoma and moved back to his home place in Morris, Oklahoma.
Preceding him in death were his parents Ruth Charnella Lackey and William Roy Lackey, older brother Carl Wayne Lackey, his younger sister Betty Sue Hefner, and his younger brother William Roy Lackey, Jr.
Survivors include his wife Jean Lackey, of the home, son Lance Harold Lackey of New Braunfels, Texas, daughter Lynette Ann Allan and husband Chris of San Antonio, Texas and daughter Leann Christine Spruell and husband David of Louisville, Kentucky, step-son Don H. Miller and wife Cynthia of Broken Arrow, step-daughter Gina Dawn Miller and husband Jamie of Tulsa, sister Charlene Sellers of Conroe of Conroe, Texas and sister Carolyn Smith and husband Galen of Piedmont, Oklahoma, eight grandchildren, six step grandchildren and thirteen step great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
A funeral service for Harold will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 28, 2017 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel in Okmulgee with Reverends Bill Storie and Paul Aelmore officiating. Interment will follow at the Morris Cemetery in Morris, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Dan Sulivant, Johnny Rogers, Tommy Peters, Eugene Buchanan, John Paul Voss, and Jack Gilbreath. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Crenshaw, Bob Dunlap, Frank Borvetz, Ted Butler, Tom Williams, Bobbie Clymore, Kenneth Edmonds, and the Morris Class of 1957.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
