This was written by my Grandson Robison Smith in tribute to his grandfather.
My Grandfather George Boyd
left this world on April 2 2020. This last Thursday was his military service at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery. We all got to say our last see ya later, and gathered up in his name. My grandfather was not only the loving, jolly, super intelligent, selfless smart ass that we’ve all loved and known, but he was a hero. Not just to us, but overseas too. He’s seen the entire world and took part in some of the biggest events in history. I will forever cherish the late night war stories, and secrets you have shared with me. I can still taste the spiced rum and whiskey while we laughed and drank like sailors. You always kept it straight forward with me and when you seen I was lacking you put me in the right direction. Thank you for loving me like your own, and caring enough for me to share the Ballad of George Boyd. For as long as I live I will share the stories that I know and cherish the medals you trusted me enough to keep. Papa, we didn’t get to say our goodbyes officially, so I will be bothered until then, but know I’m proud I can call myself your grandson. You can finally rest easy big guy. Until we meet again.
