Edna Marie Grimmett's Obituary
Edna Marie Grimmett, longtime Twin Hills area resident, died Tuesday morning, May 7, 2013 at her home. She was 91 years of age. Marie was born October 1, 1921 in Bald Hill to William Marion and Lavada Caroline (Plank) White. She graduated from Twin Hills and played in the Independent Basketball League. She married Harold Leslie “Pete” Grimmett on September 30, 1943 in Chesterfield, South Carolina. Together they had farmed since returning to Oklahoma after World War II, running a dairy farm from 1960 to 1973. In 1973, Marie and Pete began raising short horn Hereford cattle and farmed until their retirement in 2000. Marie attended Liberty Baptist Church, and was a longtime worker for the Okmulgee County Election Board and the Liberty Home Demonstration Club. Marie was a blue grass fan. She loved the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Veda Marie West, son-in-law, Mark Spillar, an infant daughter, sisters, Dorothy Burns, Beatrice Allen, Georgia Clarkson and Geraldine White and brothers, Walter White, William White, Charley White, Orville White, Elzie White and Clarence White. Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Lou Turney and husband Floyd of Twin Hills and Pam Spillar of Pace, Florida, a son-in-law, Waylon West of Muskogee, a sister-in-law, Betty White of Twin Hills, grandchildren, Leslie Chalakee and husband Cody, Misty Turney and Brent Maxwell, Melinda West, Danielle Smith, Lance Smith, Jackie Spillar and Floyd Altares, and great grandchildren, Caleb, Codi, and Carissa Chalakee and Trevor Maxwell, step grandchildren, Haley, Madrina, and Shandi Maxwell and Trinity Townsley and a step great granddaughter, Brooklyn Maxwell.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Twin Hills Gymnasium with Reverend Jeff Ward officiating. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Casketbearers will be her nephews, Danny Allen, Jerry Allen, Billy Clarkson, Charles Clarkson, Eddie White and Randy White. Honorary Casketbearers will be the Adult Women’s Sunday School Class of Liberty Baptist Church. Friends may visit the funeral home on Thursday from 12-8 P.M. and the family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
