Doris Jean Neal's Obituary
Doris Jean Neal, lifelong Okmulgee resident, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021 in Tulsa at 93 years of age. Doris was born July 29, 1927 in Okmulgee to the late Robert Byrd and Beulah Marie (Cook) Higdon. She graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1946. Doris and Lowell C. Neal were united in marriage on June 21, 1946 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Together they owned the Neal’s Mission Lane Grocery. Doris enjoyed art, music, sewing, and cooking. She was also an avid OU and Dallas Cowboys Fan. Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church, First Baptist Church B.A.L.L. Group, and the Celebration Choir.
Preceding Doris in death were her parents, husband, brothers, Robert Paul Higdon, James Higdon, Harold Higdon, and Jack Higdon, sisters Kathryn Richardson and Juanita Bowles, granddaughter, Wendee Willingham, grandson, Brandon Neal and son-in-law, Cary Bartlow.
Survivors include her children, Larry Neal and wife Teresa of Okmulgee, Sharon Willingham and husband Glen of Houston, Texas, Jennifer Bartlow of Oklahoma City, Saundra Ellis and husband Jerry of Midlothian, Texas, Gwendolyn Baldwin and husband Greg of Sherman, Texas, and Kary Neal and wife Jennifer of Okmulgee, grandchildren, Jason Neal, Kevin Willingham, Tammie Drew, Rusty Willingham, Robert Willingham, Brad Bartlow, Scott Bartlow, Susan Fairchild, Ross Ellis, Neal Ellis, Brian Thomason, Melissa Owens, Bo Thomason, Brock Thomason, Michelle Carter, Aimee Dubriel, Elizabeth Baldwin, Ashley McGovran, and Taylor Neal, forty two great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit the funeral home on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 12:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Dennis Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as casketbearers.
