Coach Gary Don McKee's Obituary
Gary Don “Coach” McKee died at his home on Friday, October 14, 2011. He was 57 years of age. Coach McKee was born on December 22, 1953 in Borger, Texas to Hale Donald and Laverda Jean (Moyers) McKee. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force before becoming a teacher and father early in life. Coach McKee moved to Okmulgee in 1986 where he coached football, wrestling, track and softball. He enjoyed working on motors and all outside activities. Coach McKee’s joy was coaching but he loved being a daddy and especially a grandpa to Jaylie. He was a member of OEA, CTA, the Oklahoma Wrestling Coaches Association, and Little League Wrestling.
His father Hale McKee and a brother Richard “Mack” McKee preceded him in death.
Coach McKee is survived by two children: Chris McKee and girlfriend Angelique Hughes and Halie McKee and husband Jarrell Dean all of Okmulgee, granddaughter Jaylie Dean, the mother of his children Laverne McKee, his mother Laverda McKee of Ardmore, brother Hugh Dale McKee also of Ardmore, honorary brother Gary Follis of Oklahoma City, many nieces, nephews, cousins and the thousands of OMS students and faculty he has touched throughout his 27 years of teaching and coaching.
Services will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church. Interment will be at 3:00 P.M. at the Greenhill Cemetery in Davis, Oklahoma. Casket bearers are Kerry Walters, John Kincaid, Jeff Pulliam, Chad Lemmons, Robert Moyers, Don Moyers, Milee Kriege and Mike Scott. Honorary casket bearers are Gary Follis, Richie McKee, and Raymond Dean, Jr. Friends may view Coach McKee at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee on Wednesday from 12:00 – 8:00 P.M.
