Betty Jo Hemphill's Obituary
Betty Jo Hemphill, 92 year old Okmulgee resident, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018. She was born February 26, 1926 in Mitchell, Indiana to the late Orville and Josephine (Sutton) Ferguson. She married the love of her life, Robert Hemphill, in 1946. In 1967 they moved from Stillwater to Okmulgee. She worked for many years at Southwestern Bell Telephone as a customer service representative. Following retirement, Betty and Robert started a successful family owned business for over 25 years. Betty was a member at First United Methodist Church. She belonged to Okmulgee Circle Square, was a member of the Lions Club and of the Home Demonstration Club. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, and winning blue ribbons at the county fair for many years. Betty was known for her sweet spirit and tender heartedness. She was very proud of all of her grandchildren and talked about them frequently, always with a smile on her face.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers Donald and Karl Ferguson. She is survived by her son Ron Hemphill, daughter Joyce Poitevent and husband Michael, grandchildren Kathy Poitevent, Cheryl Cole and husband Andrew, Valerie Williams and husband Bradford, Alisha Ertugrul and husband Ty, Angela Ertugrul and husband Tolga, and Ashley Hemphill and Jeremy Crawford, a daughter-in-law, Linda Anderson, brother-in-law, Walter Hemphill and wife Bobbi, sister-in-law, Betty Hall, eight great grandchildren and other relatives. A special thank you to Chris Marshall for being a wonderful friend and for all her support.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Roland Youngberg officiating. Interment will be in the Okmulgee Cemetery. There will be a visitation prior to the service beginning at 9:00 AM.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
