Alfred Logan Berryhill's Obituary
Alfred Logan Berryhill, longtime Okmulgee resident, died Saturday, August 31, 2013 in Okmulgee at the age of 66. Alfred was born March 7, 1947 in Tahlequah to Togo Micco and Lilly Bell (Starr) Berryhill. Alfred had attended Haskell University, Northeastern State University and Oklahoma State University as well as served in the Marine Corp Reserve. Alfred was former Second Chief of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and was the manager of the Cultural Preservation Department. He had also served as a minister for many years at Tallahassee Indian Methodist Church. He enjoyed singing Creek Hymns and studying the Creek History. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Veronica Scott, a grandson, Andrew Berryhill and a niece. He is survived by his son, Gregory Allen Berryhill and wife Sherry, two grandsons, Kenneth and Nicholas Berryhill, all of Okmulgee, a brother, Bob Cyril King and wife Anna of Tulsa, a sister, Emily Rose King of Sapulpa and numerous other relatives and friends.
A wake service will be held 6:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at the Tallahassee Indian Methodist Church officiated by Reverend David Dunson.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 5, 2013 at the Tallahassee Indian Methodist Church with Reverends Sammy Chupco and Paul Fixico officiating. Interment will follow in the Tallahassee Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Tom Harjo, Paul Harjo, Sam Harjo, Jr., Leo Hicks, Darryl Tiger, Eddie Lowe, James Whitecloud, and Virgil Wayne Harry. Honorary casketbearers will be James Starr, Raymond Smith, Howard Smith, Raymond Rash, Jospeh “Jokie” Pope, Butch Powell, Butch LaSarge and Herman Harjo. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
