Aletha June Nickle's Obituary
Aletha ‘June’ Nickle was finally reunited with her late husband, Audrey ‘Buzzy’ Oran Nickle, in Heaven, Friday, July 1, 2022. June was a longtime resident of Okmulgee and passed away at home the morning after her 86th birthday.
She was born June 30, 1936 in Henryetta, OK to the late Tillman ‘Tom’ Clayton and Effie Mae Rutherford. At the age of 15, June worked as a carhop at Lill’s Drive-In where she met the love of her life. She married Buzzy Nickle on December 16, 1952. After Buzzy returned from serving his country in the United States Marine Corps, the pair never spent a single night apart and shared their lives together for 65 years.
June attended the Beauty College in Okmulgee and worked as a beautician for 56 years. During a time when women-owned businesses were almost unheard-of, she bought, owned, and operated June's Beauty Shop and provided work opportunities for many other stylists. She served her clients faithfully until the day she retired.
She was a wonderful artist and enjoyed crafting, fishing, RV life, and most of all, being with family. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Harvest Community Church and former member of Crosstown Pentecostal Holiness Church. June will be remembered for her selfless nature and being a strong woman. To many, she was and forever will be ‘Granny June’.
June was preceded in death by her husband Audrey ‘Buzzy’ Oran Nickle and her father and mother, Tom and Effie Mae Rutherford.
Survivors include her son, Dennis Oran Nickle and wife Phyllis of Okmulgee, grandchildren, Daniel Oran Nickle of Okmulgee, Carmen Engdahl-Taylor and wife Edelaine of Owasso, great grandchildren, Madison Taylor, Maddix Taylor, and Mayer Engdahl-Taylor, sisters, Dorothy Whitfield and Shirley Ramage, brother, Franklin ‘Sonny’ Rutherford, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel in Okmulgee with Brother Keith Baldridge officiating. Interment of Ashes will take place in the Okmulgee Cemetery at a later date.
