Stephen Van Swanson

Today we lost our dad, husband, and Poppa. He went home to be with the Lord on May 14, 2026, his mom’s birthday. He was born on June 23, 1950 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Roy and Eula (Wagoner) Swanson. Stephen “Steve” Swanson was a great man. God broke the mold when He created Steve. He had the biggest heart and loved hard. Steve and Vicky shared more than 55 wonderful years of marriage, filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering love. Joy carried him through life, and he always had a joke or one-liner ready for everyone about everything. The only thing close to the size of his heart was his appetite! Dad loved food starting with his mom's chocolate pie, BBQ sandwiches, hamburgers, meatloaf, and any food mom made. Dad lived with an adventurous spirit. He and Mom loved traveling together and stopping at every hole-in-the-wall place along the way. He would drive hours just for fun or to support a track meet. Dad never met a stranger. He could find someone he knew half-way across the country. He would know all their kin-folk in Beggs before they parted ways. He should have been an engineer because there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix — from ‘66 Mustangs and Jeeps to lawnmowers, water pipes, electrical problems, and even building tree houses. If something was broken, Dad could figure it out. Steve graduated from Beggs High School in1968. He proudly served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. Steve worked for DuPont for 38 years before his retirement in September of 2012. Steve also proudly served as a firefighter for more than 25 years and faithfully gave back to the Beggs community through the American Legion and VFW for many years. He was a proud third-generation Swanson to live in Beggs, where he raised his children and grandchildren and built a life rooted in family and community. Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Eula Swanson, and sister Deanna Crook. Steve is survived by his wife, Vicky (Wiles) and he was deeply proud of his children, Glen and Jennifer Duck and Todd and Richelle Swanson. And no Poppa could have been more proud of his grandchildren: Zoe, Zander, and Zavier Duck, and Irissa, Talon, and Lilly Swanson, other survivors include his sister Stephanie Swanson Hampton and husband Dallas, and brother-in-law Wendell Crook, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Steve also had a great love for his fur grandogs, especially Daisy Duck. Viewing will be 12:00 - 7:00 PM.,Thursday, May 21, 2026,at the McClendon Winters Funeral Home of Beggs, Funeral service will be 10:00 AM at Crossroads Church with Pastor Ben Taylor and Reverend David Hamilton officiating.
