Ruth Murl Clenney

Ruth Murl Clenney died at home on March 23, 2010. She was 91 years of age. Ruth was born in Blackfork, Arkansas on November 16, 1918 to Columbus Harrison and Dora Francis (Johnson) Farmer. She attended Mt. Zion Elementary in Checotah but graduated from Menaul High school in Albuquerque, NM, and attended college at the University of New Mexico. Ruth raised six children. She also worked as an assistant newspaper editor at Estancia; then at Sandia Corp in inventory control; and last as a teacher at a girls’ school near Santa Fe. In Davis, Oklahoma she married David Clenney. Ruth enjoyed reading and loved her family. Ruth was a member of the Morris Assembly of God Church. She was always active in church activities, teaching Sunday School and leading Women’s Ministries in Assembly of God Churches. In later years she traveled abroad to Israel, Germany, China, Mexico, the Caribbean and many other countries. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David Clenney, a son James Paul Collins, and three brothers Deward, Dewey and Doy Farmer. Ruth is survived by: daughter Cecile Ras, daughter Judy Gross, daughter Shirlene Mitchell, all of Okmulgee, daughter Sharlene Frazier of Dalton, Georgia, son James Patrick Collins of Ardmore, Oklahoma, son Randall Chapman of Davis, Oklahoma, son Raymond E. Chapman of Jenks, Oklahoma, daughter Carolyn Sue Chapman of McAlester, Oklahoma, and the children of her late husband Dave Clenney. She is also survived by two sisters: Irene Hyatt of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Lorene Gonder of Springdale, Arkansas, forty-two grandchildren, sixty-five great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 29, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at the Morris Assembly of God Church with Reverend Darrin Ballard and Reverend Johnny Beckmon officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah, Oklahoma. Casket bearers are Jeff Gross, Michael Gross, Jon Collins, Jesse Mitchell, Matthew Wright, Jacob Ford, Don McKee, and Shawn Parks. Viewing will be at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee on Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
