Jack Webster Swearingen

Jack Webster Swearingen, longtime Beggs resident, passed away Friday evening in Bristow at 77 year of age. Jack was born March 3, 1938 in Fredericksburg, Texas to the late Francis Eli and Cora Mable (Mertz) Swearingen. He attended Beggs Schools, graduating in 1956, and was a quarterback for the Beggs High School Football Team. He then served his country in the U.S. Navy, being honorably discharged in 1960. Jack married Retta Shelton in 1961. He opened the SMS Machine Shop in 1975. Jack was a past Beggs Fire Chief and a member of the Beggs Masonic Lodge #319. Jack was an unselfish man, whom loved his family dearly. He enjoyed being around people and never met a stranger. He was known for giving everyone a nickname and would often tease those he was with. Jack enjoyed fishing and spending time at his land in Edna. He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Swearingen, mother Cora Scott, step-father C.W. Scott, brothers, L.A. and Frank Swearingen, sister Kay Davis and a nephew Steve Davis. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Retta Swearingen, of the home, daughter, Shari Simpson and husband Leonard of Morris, son, Bruce Swearingen and wife Cindy of Beggs, grandchildren, Dale Simpson and wife Kristin of Crescent, Oklahoma, Amber Simpson and Trey Simpson, both of Stillwater, Kaitlin Rouk and husband Jay of Beggs, Kassidy Burden and husband Ace of Weleetka and Shiann Swearingen of Beggs, great grandchildren, Jackson Simpson, Hailey Rouk and Cooper Rouk, a niece, Julie Davis Carr and husband David of Corpus Christi, Texas and a nephew, Scott Davis and wife Terri of Beggs. A service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the Crossroads Baptist Church with Reverend Travis Markes officiating. Honorary casketbearers will be David Luster, Jack Branson, Evert Boak, Ron Ballard, Snuffy Ross, Pat Trent, Erik Wetzel, Billy Ross, Henry Weins, Larry Campbell, Kenny Baughn, Johnny Hereden and Bob Kelly. Arrangements and cremation services have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Beggs.
