Irvin "Rob" R. Robertson Jr.

Irving Raymond Robertson Jr., 82, known to friends as Rob and lovingly called "Boppy" by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, went to be with Jesus on May 24, 2026. Rob was born on November 17, 1944, in Summit, New Jersey. He attended the University of Texas and Midwestern State University, where he earned his degree in Accounting. Rob resided in Wichita Falls, Texas for many years, where he worked for Kadane Oil Company. He spent most of his life in Okmulgee, Oklahoma where he worked for Viersen and Cochran Oil Company and later with the Sam Viersen Family Foundation. Rob was deeply committed to serving his community and dedicated much of his life to making Okmulgee a better place. He faithfully served in numerous roles at First United Methodist Church and was actively involved in many organizations and civic efforts throughout the years. Rob served on the YMCA Board, including holding the position of President on four occasions, and played an instrumental role in helping bring the YMCA pool project to life. His dedication to the community also led him to serve as Director of the Okmulgee Chamber of Commerce, as a member of the Okmulgee City Council, and on the Okmulgee Memorial Hospital Board. In recent years, Rob poured his heart into the Community Garden, where his servant’s spirit and passion for helping others continued to shine. An avid outdoorsman, Rob loved golfing, fishing, and gardening. His backyard was a true haven - a reflection of the care, patience, and joy he found in cultivating beauty and sharing it with others. He found peace in nature and happiness in the simple pleasures of life, especially when surrounded by family and friends. Rob also had a special love for dogs, especially his beloved dog, Max, who faithfully joined him on daily car rides. Known throughout the neighborhood for his kindness to animals, Rob kept a treat bin ready for the neighborhood dogs, who always seemed to know they were welcome at his home. He was preceded in death by his father Irving Ray, his mother Doris (Murphy) and his sister Debbie Ferguson. Rob is survived by his wife, Sherry Robertson, and her daughters, Kristi Erby and Kelli Bayouth (Brent Bayouth). He is also survived by his three children, Chris Robertson Wills (David Wills), Jill Denise Robertson (Nick Bratcher), Brent Ray Robertson, and nieces Chelsea and Hope Ferguson. He leaves behind many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will always remember Boppy as someone who loved card games and never passed up a chance for friendly competition. He enjoyed making memories with his family, exploring haunted houses and corn mazes each fall and making sure everyone got a good scare! Rob had a remarkable way of loving well and always showing up for his family. His warmth, humor, steadfast faith, and generous spirit touched everyone who knew him. Whether sharing stories, offering wisdom, or simply being present, he created memories that will be treasured for generations. He truly lived out the words of I Corinthians 16:14: "Let all that you do be done in love." He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he blessed. Rob requested that there be no formal funeral service, religious or otherwise. He shared, "just because a man has died doesn't give him the right to ask a living person to give up three or so good hours to sit on a hard pew or chair and listen to bromides and platitudes. I would rather my friends play golf or weed their garden. (If you have three hours to kill on my behalf, drop by and wash my widow's car.) My family and friends may, if they wish, assemble at their own time and place to discuss those things that they feel worthy of remembering about me and passing along."
