Mary Lou Bell, lifelong Beggs resident, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mary Lou was born February 17, 1927 in Marble City to the late Fred and Mattie (Paden) Cockrum. She married Fred Bell on December 2, 1944. Mary Lou served her community as an elected official of the City of Beggs (City Clerk and City Treasurer) for many years and later she worked at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Beggs. She touched countless lives throughout these years. Mary Lou was a long time and faithful member of the Beggs First Assembly of God Church where she was active in the Ladies Group and never missed a chance to help cook and serve at the Indian Taco Dinners. She had the distinct honor of being named “Mother of the Year”- which thrilled her. She loved her Lord, her church and pastors. She loved to be on the go, whether to a family birthday dinner or celebration as well as vacations and other outings. But her greatest joy was her family and she cherished the time they spent together. She was a devoted wife, mother, “Memaw” and loyal friend. Mary Lou will be remembered for her kind heart and dedication to helping others. She left a legacy of family and faith. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents , Fred and Mattie Cockrum; husband , Fred; son, Jack Bell, grandson, Christopher Bell and siblings, Jimmie and Jackie Cockrum. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John and Kathryn (Kemler) Bell of Beggs; a daughter-in-law, Freda Bell, Beggs; grandchildren, Jesse Bell, Rodney Bell and Mary Kathryn Bell, all of Beggs; great grandchildren, Aaron Bell, Beggs and Kyla McElhannon, Okmulgee; three great-great grandsons and other beloved family and treasured friends. Friends may visit the funeral home on Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 12:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 7, 2022 at the Beggs First Assembly of God with Reverend Robert Yandell officiating. Interment will follow in the Beggs Cemetery. Casket bearers will be John Bell, Jesse Bell, Rodney Bell, Aaron Bell, Sam Paden, and Jim Chambers. Honorary casket bearers are Jeff Fultz and Amos Gaines.
