Larry Wayne Nelson, resident of Council Hill, passed away on March 23, 2022, in Muskogee, Oklahoma at the age of 74. He was born to Homer and Mary (Williford) Nelson in Tulsa, Oklahoma on September 18, 1947. Larry grew up in Council Hill area and attended school in Checotah where he graduated high school. During his high school years Larry showed pigs. After high school Larry enlisted in the United States Navy where he served until 1971. Then he enrolled in the electrical program at what is now known as Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology. Larry secured a job with Shell Pipeline as an electrician for over 20 years until his early retirement. Larry did not want to be idle after his retirement, so he attended school to become a Gunsmith. He also worked as a Reserve Deputy for the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Department. In his spare time, he ranched and raised Black Angus cattle. He was also a member of the Jaycee’s of Cushing, Oklahoma. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Mary, and a brother Ronnie Nelson. He is survived by sons Scott Nelson and wife Judy, Chad Nelson and wife Amanda, grand children Blake, Baily, Ashley, Baron, Chelsea, Cooper, Shelbie, great-grandkids Lylah, Blakelyn, Hadley, and Dawson. Visitation will be Friday, April 1, 2022, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be Saturday at 1:00 PM at Council Hill Cemetery with Reverend Daniel Wind officiating. The family will serve as pall bearers. Arrangements have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
