Yommie Monahwee

On Thursday, June 18th, 2015, the heartbeat of our family stopped…. Yommie Monahwee Sr. was born October 19th, 1962 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Steven and Anna Monahwee. Yommie was raised in Okmulgee and enjoyed fishing, spending time with his grandchildren NaKyia, Kiera, Jalen, Marco Jr, Christian, Dezmond, Dre’ and Ayven. He especially liked watching them participate in all their sports and extracurricular activities. He was proud of each of them as the day is long. He also loved rodeos, telling stories and when we say stories, they were stories alright and sharing his old Indian tricks. Prior to his retirement, Yommie worked several years for the Muscogee Creek Nation Facilities Department, Viking Packing for 15 years and the Okmulgee Cemetery. Yommie is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Renee Monahwee-Buck and brother Eric Monahwee. He is survived by his loving children, daughter, Latasha Monahwee and Marco, son, Jeremy Monahwee and Sommer, son, Yommie Monahwee Jr. and Krista, daughter, Yolanda Lewis and her husband Marcus, and youngest daughter, Dustye Monahwee, all of Okmulgee. When he spoke of his children, you know they could do no wrong. He also is survived by his sister, Cheryl Monahwee Murillo, 5 brothers Steven Monahwee Jr, Anthony Monahwee, Mike Monahwee, Darren Monahwee, Solomon “Sonny” Johnson and his great uncle Soloman Monahwee, Granny Marianne Scott, the mother of his children, JoAnna Petree and host of nephews and nieces. Pallbearers will be Jeff Hill, Zenas Dowling, Mose Lindsey, Shane Jones, Austin Jones, Terry Jones, Randall Templeman, Frank Bear, and Dean Williams. Honorary Pallbearers are Jalen Monahwee, Christian Leblanc, Dre’ Lewis, Ayven Monahwee, Larry Johnson, Marco Smith, Jr., and Theron Richards Visitation will be held at the Belvin Baptist Church from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Monday evening, June 22 and Wake Services will be 7:00 PM, officiated by Reverend Newman Frank. The funeral services will be 2pm Tuesday, June 23rd, officiated by Lay Speaker, Floyd Jones. Interment will be held in Okmulgee. Arrangements have been entrusted to McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
