Odie Ray Brown

Odie Ray Brown, a life long resident of Okmulgee and current resident of Broken Arrow passed from this life on August 15, 2023 at the VA Hospital in Muskogee. He was born July 12th, 1930 in Bald Hill, Oklahoma to Sam and Pearl (Blair) Brown. Odie was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Okmulgee and missed being able to attend when he moved to Broken Arrow. Odie led a long and full life, filled with hard work, family and friends and passionate past times. He was a huge St Louis Cardinals fan and never missed watching a game. The night before his passing, he tuned in to the game and the nurse caring for him, also a big Cardinals fan, joined him in watching the game and discussing all the players past and present. He was known to his family and friends as “The Puzzle King” as he would complete a 1,000 piece puzzle every couple of weeks. He had two car tags that showed Dallas Cowboys on the front and Cardinals on the back. If he could have had a third it would definitely say Oklahoma Sooners. Odie was father to two children, daughter Judy and son Doug. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He loved hearing about their lives and accomplishments and spoke of them all with much pride and love. He resided with his daughter and son-in-law Tom for the past 3-1/2 years. Odie held many jobs throughout his life. He joined the US Navy at a very early age and retired from Unit Rig in Sapulpa. After retirement he had a lawn care service to supplement his income and to be around people. He was truly a people person, never meeting a stranger. Odie was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Eula Faye Brown, Barbara Looney, Syble Fleetwood, Freda Prevett and Esther Cargola; brothers Obie Brown and Samuel Brown; and his son, Douglas Keith Brown. He is survived by a sister LaVonne Kilgore; his daughter Judy Langwell and son-in-law Tom; grandchildren Angela Byars and husband Chris; David Brown and wife Paige; Jennifer Robinson; Allison Lloyd and husband Christian; Jordan Brown and wife Jordan Brooke. Great grandchildren, Eric Byars and wife Abby, Rhianna Langwell, Lillian Rockett and husband Wyatt, Riley Robinson, Parker Lloyd and Jaycee Lloyd; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special thank you to the wonderful doctors and nurses at the VA who showed much kindness and tender care to this proud Navy Veteran. Friends may visit the funeral home on Thursday, August 17, 2023 from 1:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 18, 2023 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
