Jim B. Harjo Jr.

Sgt Jim B. Harjo went to be with the Lord on July 15, 2026, at the family home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 4, 1947, and just celebrated his 79th birthday. Jim is a member of the Big Cussetah United Methodist Church and loved his family church High Spring Baptist Church in Okemah. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran, he served in Vietnam in 1967/1968 during Jet offensive, his unit was 199th Infantry Brigade (Red Catchers). During his time in service, he was a sniper and broke his back jumping out of choppers. Jim graduated from Haskell Indian Jr. College in Lawrence Kansas, transferred to Northeastern in Tahlequah, and graduated from OSU tech Okmulgee in 1997. He worked as a heavy equipment operator, had a small construction company, and worked as a correctional officer at DOC Jesse Dunn, and DOC McAlester. Jim served 2 ½ terms as a CN National Council Rep. Okmulgee District, served on the Alabama Quassarte Tribal Town Governing Committee. He met his life partner Nettie of 55 years in Lawrence Kansas. They married on December 31, 1970, and were blessed with three children. Jim is proceeded in death by his mother, Lena Wind Harjo, father, Jim B. Harjo, sister, Connie Harjo, brothers, John James Harjo, Norman Harjo, Duke Harjo, Francis Harjo, and his beloved “God” son, Alfred (Tre) Mason. He is survived by his loving wife, Nettie, of the home, daughters, Connie Harjo and Sonte Lena of Henryetta, son, C.J. and Earley of Okmulgee, son, Terrence and Michelle of Coweta, sister, Lena Wind, adopted son, Alfred (Jr.) and Nancy Mason, grandchildren; Katey Harjo, Sonte James Duke Lena, and Yaquine Harjo. Step grandchildren; Jeremy, Nimsey, Thomasine, and Aiden Baker. God children, Charlie and Laura Mason. Several nieces and nephews who he all loved, and in return respected him. He was always there for them when they needed to talk. Visitation for Jim will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 6:00P.M. – 8:00 P.M., with a Wake starting at 7:00P.M., at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 2:00P.M., at Hot Spring Church in Okemah with Pastor Jesse Wind and Deacon DJ Wallace officiating. Interment will take place in the Wind Family Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Alfred Mason, Charlie Mason, Dennis Mitchell Jr., Pete Coser Jr., Bryen Brown, Jered Willeret, Daniel Crowe, and Famous Marshall Jr. Honorary casketbearers will be Wotko Long and Michael (Bobo) Jarpalchee. Arrangements have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee, Oklahoma.
