Dorothy Flood

Born July 25, 1924, Dorothy Edith Walker Flood departed this life for her Heavenly home on July 28, 2009, at the age of 85 years and three days. She was the youngest of four daughters born to Isaac Russell and Ruth Bell Dykes Walker in Okmulgee. She graduated from Okmulgee High School and moved to Washington D. C. to work and be with her sister. It was there that she met a tall, good-looking Marine named Alger Watts Flood who won her heart. They were married on April 15, 1944. Three children were born to this family after settling in Okmulgee. She never missed an activity or opportunity to be involved in the lives of her children. Dorothy was a life-long member of First Baptist Church singing in the choir, playing the handbells and participating in the Lydia Sunday School Class. She enjoyed being part of the Home Demonstration Club and the Okmulgee County Retired School Employees Association. She loved games, puzzles, reading, sewing and crafts, being outside, all sports and most of all being with family and friends. She had a heart for animals and always had at least one dog. She worked at the administration office of Okmulgee schools as the treasurer for over thirty years. After her retirement she took up the game of golf, a sport she dearly loved and she and her friends could be found on the golf course as long as the weather allowed. She also enjoyed many trips with the BALL (Be Active Live Longer) group from her church. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 58 years. She loved life and will be terribly missed by her loving family. Survivors include her beloved children, daughter, Ruth Ann Cotner and husband Walt of Houston, Texas, son Alger Walker Flood and wife Pam of Claremore, Oklahoma, and son Randall George Flood and Ilka of Parker, Colorado, granddaughters Ashley Aryn Laubach and husband Rhett of Edmond, Oklahoma, Amanda Michol Ward and husband Adam of Norman, Oklahoma, grandsons Gavin Alger Flood, Tristan Randall Flood, and Ryan Nicholas Flood all of Parker, Colorado, great-granddaughters Vivian Claire Laubach and Addison Grace Laubach both of Edmond, Oklahoma, sisters Billie Merle Campbell of Stroud, Oklahoma, Earline Ruth Geiger of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Mary Frances Erickson of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 3, 2009 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Frank Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Mike Cole, Adam Ward, Rhett Laubach, Mark Cole, Phil Geiger and Steve Kahbeah. The Family will receive friends from 2-4 P.M. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.
