Barney Joe Spradling

Barney Joe Spradling, age 65, a resident of Nuyaka, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016, at Rebold Manor Nursing Home. He was born on March 13, 1951 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Joe D. and Eva Pauline Smith Spradling. Barney and his family moved from Tulsa to Nuyaka in 1965, where he worked on the family farm. He graduated from Beggs High School in 1969 and later attended the University of Tulsa. He worked for the Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office from 1969-1970, Perilstein Glass Packing Department in 1972, and in 1973 he and his father opened a Ford Tractor Dealership. In 1975, Barney became Beggs Police Chief, a position he held for 18 years. He was the youngest Chief in the state of Oklahoma ever appointed. After serving as Beggs Police Chief, Barney became an Intrastate truck driver, traveling most of the 48 states until 2004. During his lifetime, Barney was also a rancher on the family farm in Nuyaka. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and also loved shooting, baseball and his dog. Barney was also very talented as a leatherworker. Barney was a member of the NRA and Beggs Masonic Lodge as a 33 degree Mason. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe D. Spradling and Eva Hicks and one nephew. Barney is survived by a son, Jason and wife Toni Spradling of Nuyaka, a granddaughter, Stephanie Spradling, three step grandsons, Caleb, Samuel and Joshua King, a brother, David "Rex" Spradling of Nuyaka, a sister, Barbara Weiden and husband Randy of Owasso, Oklahoma, one niece and two nephews. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel in Okmulgee. Burial will follow the service at 2 p.m. at the Old Panther Cemetery in McCurtain, Oklahoma. Honorary Casketbearers will be Randy Weiden, Rex Spradling, Mike Abercrombie, Chuck Cole, Jeremy Spradling and Tyson Christy. Viewing for Barney will be from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
