Rachel Nadine Berry

When looking for a quality gem, you look for one that is described as polished, brilliant, true, exquisite or beautiful. Rachel Nadine Berry precisely embodied every one of these terms. Other words that described Nadine were refined, demure, sophisticated and graceful. Nadine was truly a gem. On July 4th 1937, Virginia Nadine and John Mann Chancellor welcomed their first daughter in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and on November 18th, 1941, God blessed Nadine with her sister and best friend Johnnie Belle. At a very young age, Nadine took Johnnie Belle by the hand, guiding her through extremely harsh, hard times, until they were adopted by John Mann’s sister Otha and her husband Gus Berry. Throughout a long life and five marriages, Nadine was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, great-great aunt and friend to so many lucky people. Nadine was preceded in death by her sister Johnnie Belle Berry, parents Otha Jane and Gus Berry and her biological parents Virginia Nadine and John Mann Chancellor. She said a short-term goodbye to her loving family: her nephew, Brett Garland and his wife Diana Garland of Henryetta, OK, her niece Michelle Johnston and her husband Curt Johnston of Mounds, OK, her niece Dawn DeBock and Devin DeBock also of Okmulgee, OK, her great nieces and nephews Dallas Johnston, Sydney and her husband Johnny Rutledge, Ege and Katie DeBock, her great-great nephew Rhett Knox Rutledge and a host of other cherished distant family members and loyal friends. Her family invites you to join them to celebrate Nadine’s precious life at the First Baptist Church in Okmulgee at 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, November, 13th, 2015 with Dr. Dennis Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Nadine’s family is comforted by knowing she was welcomed at Heaven’s Gate by her sister and best friend, Johnnie Belle, along with other family and friends, whom she had missed greatly. Arrangements have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee. The Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M.
