J.D. Chambers

J.D. Chambers, longtime Mounds resident, passed away Thursday night, January 7, 2016 at his home. He was 72 years of age. J.D. was born June 10, 1943 in Okmulgee to the late Franklin Marion Chambers, Sr. and Lorena Mae (Massey) Chambers. He married Linda Horn on October 14, 1966 in Beggs. He had served in the Army National Guard for five years. J.D. was a welder at Hughes-Anderson and retired in 2006. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Mounds, where he had formerly served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and in any way he could help around the church. J.D. enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He will be remembered as a very giving person who loved to make people laugh with his great sense of humor. J.D. was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Franklin Marion Chambers, Jr. and Richard Leon Chambers. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Linda Chambers, of the home, two sons, Micheal D. Chambers of Mounds and his wife Sarah of Cedar Hills, Utah and Dustin D. Chambers and his wife Stacey of Van Buren, Arkansas, siblings, Norma Jean Patrick of Mounds, Nadine Tatyrek and husband George of Carrolton, Texas, Wayne Chambers and wife Rose of Beggs, Paula Mills and husband Jay of Beggs, Naomi Smeltzer of Marysville, Missouri, Leona Harrison and husband Dave of Shelton, Washington and Max Chambers and wife Joy of Mounds, granddaughters, Catherine Stevens and husband Zach, Kaylee Boysen and husband Tye, Laura Case and husband Justin, Tatum Chambers, Ariana Chambers and Rylee Chambers, grandson, Davis Chambers, great grandchildren, Capri, Beckham and Izabelle and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may visit on Sunday, January 10, 2016 from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM and the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Beggs. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, January 11, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Mounds with Reverend Dick Knox officiating. Interment will follow in the Beggs Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Robert Foresman, Scott Barton, Ronnie Patrick, Jim Wesley, Tony Horn and Dennis Campbell. Honorary casketbearers will be Jay Mills, George Tatyrek, Dave Harrison, Bob Martin and Shaun Culbert. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Children’s Camps in J.D.’s memory.
