Mary Elizabeth Farned Purvine, better known as Elizabeth Purvine, of Okmulgee Oklahoma, at the blessed age of 94, was called from restful sleep within the comfort of her own bed, to begin the next part of her journey with her Lord and Savior.
Elizabeth Purvine was born on December 16, 1915 to Lettie C. Farned and Fred Farned. She was the oldest of three siblings, Evans Farned and Katherine Farned McCormack. Although she grew up in Mississippi and Arkansas, it was Okmulgee that she moved to during her teenage years. It was here she called home and lived out the rest of her days. Elizabeth graduated from Okmulgee High School, class of 1934. Soon after she met her soulmate, Wesley Auverne Purvine, also of Okmulgee. After years of courting, their engagement led to a private marriage service in Piedmont, Oklahoma on May 24, 1936, where the bride wore a light-blue two-piece ensemble. She recalled that the dessert at their wedding dinner was home grown peaches. That precious day was followed by 57 years of beloved companionship, until her Auverne was called Home early in 1993.
Throughout her life, her service, loyalty, duty and honor, was dedicated to Jesus Christ, her Savior; Wesley Purvine, her husband; Glenda Purvine, her only daughter; Jerry Purvine and Robert Purvine, her sons; and her ten precious grandchildren and 22 adored great-grandchildren, and one darling great-great-grandchild.
Elizabeth humbly served her Lord with years of dedication to Butler Memorial United Methodist Church. As a Charter Member of this church, she dutifully ministered with heartfelt devotion until the doors were closed to this church in December 2008, only to have new doors open to her at Schulter Methodist Church. Throughout the years, her service to the church included President of the Women’s Society of Christian Service, as well as the many offices of the church board and United Methodist Women.
She is predeceased by her husband, Auverne; her parents, Lettie and Fred; her daughter, Glenda; her brother, Evans; her sister, Kathryn; and one great-grandchild Madison Purvine. She is survived by Jerry and Joanne Purvine, Okmulgee, OK; Bobby and Sandy Purvine, Moore, OK; Joe and Carolyn Purvine, Tulsa, OK; Debbie Smith, Norman, OK; Gina Soukup, Pryor, OK; Beth Ann and James Harrison, Oklahoma City, OK; Michael and Tonya Purvine, Oklahoma City, OK; Stephen and Amber Purvine Hodge, Edmond, OK; Joseph and Mary Beth Purvine, Dickson, TN; Mike and Debbie Garner, Fort Worth, TX; Brett and Carla Purvine, Oklahoma City, OK; Bobbi Jean Purvine, Midwest City, OK; Mindy and Kevin Clay, Oklahoma City, OK.
