Ray Clayton Newport
Ray Clayton Newport 93, a longtime
resident of Okmulgee died on Friday, July 18, 2008 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Ray was
born on March 7, 1915 in Welty, Oklahoma to Joe Robert and Myrtle C. (Hill)
Newport. He worked for a glass plant in Okmulgee and later for the M & D Star
Drug Company. Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Army, VFW Lodge 1189, DAV, and
American Legion and was awarded the Bronze Star. His parents, wife, Georgia
Newport, 2 sons Jim Newport and Jerry Clayton Newport, 2 brothers and 4 sisters
preceded him in death.
Survivors include his daughter; Judy and Ray Newport of
Kellyville, OK, Son; Jeffrey Scott and wife Vicky Newport of Sand Springs, OK,
five grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and six great-great
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, 2 PM at the Grand
Avenue Church of Christ with Robert McDoniel officiating. Casketbearers will be
Lloyd Carroll, Jimmie Carroll, Jackie Carroll, Lewis Gibson III, Charles Hobbs,
and Wallace Newport. Honorary casketbearers will be the great grandsons. Burial
will be in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, 10-8 pm at the
