Dorlis Anderson
Dorlis Marie (Childers) Anderson, age 76
and a resident of Okmulgee, went to be with her Lord and
Savior on January 27th, 2008. She was born on
August 23, 1931. Dorlis was married for over 56 years to
Charles Eugene Anderson. They lived many places throughout
their marriage: Arizona, California, and Oklahoma. She was a
Registered Nurse before having children, and was also a day
care provider and business partner of "Small World Day Care"
in Okmulgee for many years before retiring in 1998. Dorlis
and Charles were foster parents for over 40 years and have
helped to nurture many children throughout their married
life. Her home was always open to any child.
Dorlis was a born-again, spirit-filled
Christian and attended services at Harvest Community Church
in Okmulgee. She was a Sunday school teacher for most of her
adult life, and very active in all church ministries,
especially in song and children’s ministries.
She was preceded in death by one son
Darrell Anderson of Phoenix, Arizona, her parents Iva
(Starkey) Duncan and Leroy Childers.
Dorlis is survived by her husband of the
home Charles Anderson of Okmulgee, and five grown children –
Debbie Sebring of Tulsa, David Anderson and Wade Hall of the
Wilson Community, Laura Evelyn Buell and husband Jon of the
Wilson Community, Darla McKinley of Okmulgee, and Tiffany
Anderson of Okmulgee. She is also survived by two sisters,
Gwen Tipton, Port Charles, LA, and Gail Brooks and husband
Eddie of Richland, WA. Dorlis has fourteen grandchildren and
eight great-grandchildren as well as a host of family and
friends.
Services will be held Friday, February 1st,
2008 at 2 P.M. at Harvest Community Church in Okmulgee with
Reverend Paul Ramsey and Reverend Marvin Buell officiating
with burial in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Viewing will be on
Thursday, January 31, 2008 from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the
family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the
McClendon-Winters Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the
